If you find yourself in a state of recovery after last weeks Legion then rest assured, you are not alone. No, not the Michael Jackson song (bet that’s in your head now… you’re welcome), more in the “I’m a little frazzled too” way. After a couple of weeks of some deep character exploration, Legion started to advance the plot and give us some answers to this season’s big questions and none bigger than the fact that David is the monster that Future Syd is trying to prevent. Much like we expected. A large part of this season has been David trying to prevent the future out of his love of Future Syd and because of recent events, I’m starting to believe that there might not be any preventing of it.
Present day Syd is going to have to do some serious work in order to reign in David after the loss of his sister. Lenny’s arrival to Division III can easily be considered a distraction, like Syd tells her, but she still packs that emotional kick to the junk. David, a character who has had a history of not being all together, seems to be unraveling and his pursuit to aid the Shadow King in finding his body has turned into a quest to destroy that body before it can be used. Something tells me these are the exact events that will cause Future Syd’s future, and she seems content in letting them play out just for those small moments with the David she remembers. David’s confession that he doesn’t think he can help Farouk anymore are sincere and Future Syd doesn’t beg him to change his mind. In fact, she tells him to do what’s best and then says goodbye. With some kissing. The one thing David promised present day Syd wouldn’t happen. I’m sure when that little chestnut sees the light of day it won’t cause any problems, he said sarcastically. David currently lives in a world where he’s lost his sister but what would happen if he lost Syd too? Could it the final straw needed to cause the future or maybe could the end of their relationship be the one thing to center David? Having nothing left in life could it be possible that he just gives in to the Shadow King? Things to ponder.
Future Syd was a bit busy last week as she also spoke to Farouk who loved the fact that she needed him so badly. Nothing like humbling your enemies. Farouk was the one who pieced together the puzzle that David is the monster of the future, and one has to wonder if this alliance between the Shadow King and Future Syd is the real reason why Future Syd was willing to let David give up on his quest.
Elsewhere, Division III continues to be the worst government agency ever and is recovering from yet another attack. This one came with a bit of a cost though as our resident Tommy gun-toting mutant, Ptonomy seems to be dying from his wounds caused by the insanity monster. Luckily the Vermillion drag him into the woods and connect him to a tree transporting Ptonomy in a room with an old woman in a rocking chair. Yeah, I don’t know what to make of that either other than the fact that Ptonomy is now possibly part of a computer program… I think.
Oliver threatened to kill Farouk a couple of episodes ago and I’m starting to believe that that is going to be one of those dark horse story threads that pops up at the absolute worst time. If Oliver kills the Shadow King will it still create the future that we’re trying to prevent? Total wild card here.
Also, David created a whole bunch of different timelines a couple of weeks ago, anyone else want to bet we’re going to see one or two of those Davids again?
There you have it Geeklings, only four episodes of Legion left for the season and it is anyone’s guess where this thing could go. If you have any theories be sure to share them in the comments. If you’d like to break down some episodes or just talk Legion then you can find me on Twitter @iamgeek32. Be sure to enjoy tonight’s episode and I’ll see you all here tomorrow with my review.
