The Associated
Press
has reported that
outlaw country legend, Merle
Haggard, has passed
away from pneumonia. The news was obtained from
Haggard’s manager, Frank
Mull.
Today is also Haggard’s 79th birthday.

Haggard had been forced to

cancel several performances last
year due to health concerns and, only last
week, cancelled the remainder of
his scheduled appearances for
this
year.

Haggard has had more than 100
country
chart singles, 38
number 1 hits, close to 70 albums and an impressive amount of
awards
including honors from The Academy of
Country Music, The Country Music
Association, The Grammys and The Country
Music Hall of Fame. With more than
600
songs under his belt, he has pioneered the country music genre. One of
the
greatest in the business,
Haggard has influenced artists and musicians, of all
genres, for decades and
will continue to do so for
decades to
come.

Haggard is survived by his wife Theresa Ann Lane
and his

children.
