The Walking Dead is ready to make a time jump in its upcoming ninth season. Just last month, new showrunner Angela Kang confirmed that the series will leap a few years into the future which leaves fans with one question, “What about Maggie’s pregnancy?”
Maggie Rhee (played by Lauren Cohan) has been pregnant for what seems like an eternity to viewers though, within the timeframe on the show, it has maybe only been a month or so. Still, the topic of Maggie’s pregnancy has become like an inside joke amongst the cast and the show’s fan.
On Monday night, Lauren Cohan stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! in order to promote her two new projects, her film Mile 22 and her new ABC show Whiskey Cavalier. Of course, during the interview, they chatted a bit about The Walking Dead as well and Kimmel just couldn’t keep himself from asking about the infamous impending pregnancy.
When Kimmel asks her how long Maggie has been pregnant on the show, she cleverly responds with a laugh, “It’s somewhere between eighteen and nineteen years for the first trimester.”
She then follows up the joke with a statement that could somewhat make sense to those who are having a difficult time with Maggie’s unreasonably long gestation period. Cohan says, “I figured there’s not that much nutrition in the apocalypse, so you end up taking a lot longer to actually grow a baby. And no one can disprove this because we haven’t had an apocalypse yet.”
Cohan then goes on to talk a little bit more about the trailer and the time jump in the interview. Check out the fill Jimmy Kimmel Live! interview with Lauren Cohan below.
As Cohan mentions in the interview, over the weekend at San Diego Comic-Con, series star Andrew Lincoln (who plays Rick Grimes) confirmed his speculated exit from the series was, in fact, happening. This will be a huge change for the show, losing its main lead character, but it seems like that’s not all. It has also been reported that Cohan herself will be leaving the series before the season’s end in order to work on ABC’s Whiskey Cavalier. Both Cohan and Lincoln are said to appear in just six episodes in the upcoming season.
The Walking Dead will return to AMC with new episodes starting on October 7th.
