As the end of the year begins to approach, in the world of cinema that only means one thing – Oscar season! As all of the contenders continue to hit theaters, the amount of buzz surrounding who and what will be nominated is all anyone wants to talk about. One film that definitely on the board to receive some Oscar love? A Star Is Born.
The hauntingly beautiful musical drama starring Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga seems to be one movie on everyone’s lists. The film, which follows a musician (Bradley Cooper) who helps a young singer/actress (Lady Gaga) find fame as his own career heads into a downward spiral, is being praised not only for its acting but its music – starting with the emotional ballad, “Shallow”.
The song is a huge standout amongst the film’s entire masterful soundtrack, but surprisingly it hasn’t been sung live by either of the stars since the movie’s release. Well, while speaking with Variety, Lady Gaga revealed that should it be nominated for Best Original Song at this year’s Academy Awards (which it definitely will), she would “one hundred percent” partake in the tradition of performing it live during the ceremony. In fact, her and Cooper have already discussed the potential performance.
[row]“We talked about that actually, because I’m such a maniac,” Cooper also said. “I started texting [Gaga] the whole pitch of how we should do it. So we’ll see. There might be a cool, unorthodox way we could perform it.”[/row]
A Star Is Born also marked the directorial debut for Cooper and the numbers that were performed throughout it were both visceral and moving, garnering a wide range of emotions from the audience. So, we have full faith that with Cooper’s vision, should the duo perform live, it would be one of the Oscar’s biggest standout moments.
“Shallow” was co-written by Lady Gaga, Miike Snow’s Andrew Wyatt, Anthony Rossomando and producer Mark Ronson. Since it’s release, the song has exceeded expectations, reaching number 5 in the United States and the top of the charts in Australia and the U.K.

Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
