After the recent success of Cobra Kai,YouTube is ready to take a bigger bite out of the original series game. The video-streaming site has just ordered 10 episodes of a ’90s centered dark comedy series starring Fargo’s Kirsten Dunst with George Clooney serving as Executive Producer. The series will be titled On Becoming a God in Central Florida and is expected to premiere on YouTube Premium (previously YouTube Red) sometime next year. The project was first announced as being in development at AMC early last year.
On Becoming a God in Central Florida follows Krystal Gill (Dunst), “a water park employee who sets out to infiltrate the multi-billion dollar pyramid scheme that wiped out her family’s finances.” According to the logline, Gill is described as “a dirt-poor, very fierce young woman who is relentless in her pursuit of the American dream inside of an Amway-like company.” Master of Sex’s Esta Spalding will be serving as Showrunner with Robert Funke and Matt Lutsky writing the pilot.
Despite being known mainly for film in the late ’90s and throughout the 2000’s such as Spider-Man, Elizabethtown and Marie Antionette, Dunst recently found success on the small screen when starred in FX’s series Fargo as Peggy Blumquist, a role for which she was nominated for an Emmy and Golden Globe. She is currently married to her Fargo co-star and Friday Night Lights alum Jesse Plemmons (above).
Are you ready to go back to the ’90s with Dunst? We are totally on board for any show that takes place in that decade!
Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
