Judging by social media alone, the cast of the upcoming Chilling Adventures of Sabrina seems to be getting along really well off-camera. Whether it’s the show’s official accounts or a personal account, the group of youngsters always seems to be having a grand ol’ time together. They even did the In My Feelings challenge one night in honor of their fearless leader Kiernan Shipka who is starring on the series as Sabrina Spellman and often goes by Kiki.
Although the truth came out in her most recent interview with Vulture when she revealed the one cast member she doesn’t get along with…or should we say cat member.
[row]The cat is the one cast member I don’t get along with,” Shipka says referring to Sabrina’s feline friend Salem. [/row]
It turns out the actress was actually allergic, a fact she learned after getting hives from picking up one of the five cats the series has on hand to play Salem.
[row]”The cats are like Bobby Draper,” She joked, calling back to her days of playing Sally Draper on Mad Men when multiple actors played her younger brother. [/row]
Not too much content aside from some awesome-looking photos have been released for the Riverdale sister series, but Salem the Cat has been abundant on the show’s social media. Last month, they celebrated International Cat Day with an homage to Salem’s nail grooming habit from the 90’s sitcom.
Earlier this year executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa gave excited fans their first look at the oh so wise cat. You can check that out below!

Despite being portrayed as a talking cat with his eyes set on world domination in Melissa Joan Hart’s Sabrina the Teenage Witch series, Salem was just an ordinary, non-speaking cat in the original Archie Comic source material. Over time, his comic book counterpart eventually began to evolve into a much darker version of the character, which seems fairly in line with the dark and angsty tone the upcoming Netflix adaption will have. Thankfully, this Salem looks a lot more realistic than the older one.
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina will put a darker twist on the iconic teenage witch and follows Sabrina Spellman as she struggles to balance being both a half-witch/half-human to protect the ones she loves from the dangers lurking in her town of Glendale. Despite being a spinoff from Riverdale, the two series will not feature any crossover seeing that Sabrina will be premiering on Netflix and Riverdale currently resides at The CW.
In addition to Shipka, the series will also star Ross Lynch as Harvey Finkle, Lucy Davis as Aunt Hilda, Miranda Otto as Aunt Zelda, Jaz Sinclair as Sabrina’s friend Rosalind Walker, and Tati Gabrielle as her rival Prudence.
Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
