The 91st Academy Awards may not be featuring the Best in Popular Film category this year, but they have certainly booked a pretty popular funnyman to host. Hart is no stranger to commanding a stage, beginning his career by winning several amateur comedy competitions at clubs before being getting his big break in Judd Apatow’s Undelcared. He later continued his stand-up comedy reign on stage with a series of tours starting 2009’s “I’m a Grown Little Man,” followed by “Seriously Funny” in 2010, “Laugh at My Pain” in 2011, and “Let Me Explain” in 2013. Both “Laugh at My Pain” and “Let Me Explain” were released in theaters. He also has quite the hosting resume as well, having led both the MTV Video Awards and the VMAs in the past. Hart has also hosted three episodes of Saturday Night Light.
Last year’s Oscars, which sent The Shape of Water home with Best Picture, were hosted by Jimmy Kimmel for the second year in a row. While an overall enjoyable show, the evening hit an all-time low in the ratings with 24.4 million total viewers. Prior to Kimmel, Chris Rock, Neil Patrick Harris, Ellen DeGeneres, and Seth MacFarlane all hosted.
Hart recently starred in the smash hit Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle alongisde Dwayne Johnson, of which he is set to appear in the upcoming 2019 sequel as well. Since then he starred in Night School with Tiffany Haddish and will soon appear in The Upside with Bryan Cranston and Nicole Kidman.
Are you excited to see Kevin Hart hosting the Oscars? Be sure to tune in on Sunday, Feb. 24 on ABC for the show!
Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
