Kenan Thompson to Star in New NBC Family Sitcom Pilot
If you’ve been a fan of Kenan Thompson’s hilarious work throughout his past sixteen seasons on Saturday Night Live, there’s good news on the horizon for you! NBC has just ordered a family sitcom pilot titled Saving Kenan, which Thompson will both be starring in and executive producing.
According to the official logline, as reported by TVLine, Saving Kenan would find the SNL star as “a recently widowed dad who is determined to be everything for his kids while begrudgingly letting his persistent father-in-law become more involved in their lives.” There have not been any casting announcements made about who would be playing his father-in-law, but we have high hopes for a comedy icon!
Should NBC choose to order Saving Kenan to series, Thompson’s future on Saturday Night Live would most likely come to an end, however, he wouldn’t be saying goodbye to everyone. SNL creator Lorne Michaels is on board to executive produce alongside Thompson. Superstore’s Jackie Clarkson will be writing the pilot’s script.
Having joined the cast in 2003, Thompson is actually the longest-tenured cast member in SNL history, finally earning his long overdue first Emmy nomination last year. Some of his previous improv work included an iconic run on Nickelodeon in the ’90s where he starred on Kenan and Kel and All That.
What do you think about Thompson’s new show? Would you rather see him on a new NBC series or stay on Saturday Night Live? Sound off below!
Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
