Justin Long to Recur on ABC’s ‘Roseanne’ Spinoff ‘The Conners’

It looks like ABC’s new comedy series The Conners will delve deeper into Darlene and David’s defunct relationship and their lives after that. Deadline reports that Justin Long has been cast in the role of Neil, Darlene’s (played by Sara Gilbert) new love interest on the series.

In the Roseanne spinoff, we learned that Darlene and David (played by Johnny Galecki) had been married, had children and had since divorced, further perpetuating their “on again, off again” relationship from the original series. Recently, it was announced that Juliette Lewis had joined the series playing David’s girlfriend, Blue, who was referenced in the revival season and that Galecki would be returning for the new spinoff as well. The casting of Long in the role of Darlene’s boyfriend will undoubtedly add a hilarious twist to the relationship drama between Darlene and David.

Long had recently stopped by the set as shown in the below photo posted to The Conners official twitter page:

Also set to guest star in the upcoming series is Estelle Parsons as Beverly, James Pickens Jr. as Chuck and Natalie West as Crystal.

The new series will continue to explore the lives of the Clonner family after the loss of their matriarch, Rosanne. The official synopsis for the upcoming series is below:

“After a sudden turn of events, the Conners are forced to face the daily struggles of life in Lanford in a way they never have before. This iconic family – Dan, Jackie, Darlene, Becky, and D.J. – grapples with parenthood, dating, an unexpected pregnancy, financial pressures, aging and in-laws in working-class America. Through it all, the fights, the coupon cutting, the hand-me-downs, the breakdowns – with love, humor, and perseverance, the family prevails.”

The rest of the original cast will be returning for The Conners. The series will star John Goodman (Dan), Laurie Metcalf (Jackie), Sara Gilbert (Darlene), Lecy Goranson (Becky), Michael Fishman (D.J.), Emma Kenney (Harris), Ames McNamara (Mark) and Jayden Rey (Mary) as their beloved Conner characters, with the new and talented addition of Maya Lynne Robinson (Geena).

Tom Werner executive produce, along with Gilbert, Bruce Helford, Dave Caplan, Bruce Rasmussen, and Tony Hernandez. Helford, Caplan, and Rasmussen are also writers.

The Conners is set to premiere on Tuesday, October 16th at 8 pm.
