Julie Andrews has a Secret Role in ‘Aquaman’

If you’re planning on heading to theaters next month to see Warner Bros and DC’s Aquaman, it turns out you will be hearing a familiar and unexpected voice playing a key role in the upcoming film.

Believe it or not, legendary actress Julie Andrews has a secret role in the underwater superhero story. Entertainment Weekly announced that Andrews will be lending her vocal talents to the film by playing the role of Karathen, “an undersea creature that holds the key to Arthur Curry’s quest to unite the Atlantean and surface worlds.”

Director James Wan recently confirmed the news with a tweet by saying, “The most powerful creature on Earth is a dame.”

While Andrews is practically perfect in every role she plays, this casting is of particular interest simply because of the film’s release date. Aquaman is hitting theaters on December 21st, just a few days after Mary Poppins Returns will be premiering. Andrews originated the role of Mary Poppins back in 1964 and reportedly turned down a role in the new film so as to not take away from the Emily Blunt’s version of the character. Now both Aquaman and Mary Poppins Returns will be facing off at the box office in December.

In addition to Andrews, Jason Momoa reprises his role in the DC Universe as Arthur Curry (aka. Aquaman, half-human, half-Atlantean and King of the Seven Seas, ruler of Atlantis). The film also stars Amber Heard (as Mera), Patrick Wilson (as the villainous Orm/Ocean Master), Temuera Morrison (as Tom Curry), Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (as Black Manta), Nicole Kidman (as Queen Atlanna), Dolph Lundgren (as King Nereus) and Oscar-nominee Willem Dafoe (as Nuidis Vulko).

Aquaman is directed by James Wan. Peter Safran is producing along with Zack and Deborah Snyder, Rob Cowan, Jon Berg and Geoff Johns serving as executive producers.

The official film synopsis reads as follows:

[row]“From Warner Bros. Pictures and director James Wan comes an action-packed adventure that spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas, “Aquaman,” starring Jason Momoa in the title role. The film reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime—one that will not only force him to face who he really is but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be…a king.”[/row]

Aquaman will splash down into theaters on December 21, 2018. Amazon Prime members also have an opportunity to see the film early. You can find all the details regarding the early screening HERE.
