Julia Louis-Dreyfus Makes SAG Awards History After Winning Best Actress in a Comedy Series

Veep star Julia Louis-Dreyfus made history at Sunday night’s Screen Actors Guild Awards after winning Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor for her role of Selina Meyer.  The win gave Louis-Dreyfus her 5th individual SAG Award making her the first actress ever to achieve that accomplishment.  She has previously won three SAG Awards for her role on Veep and two for her role as Elaine Benes on Seinfeld.

Louis-Dreyfus was not present to accept her award.  In September of last year, just a few days after winning her 6th Emmy for the same role, she announced that she would be undergoing treatment for breast cancer.  Shortly after her announcement, production on Veep was suspended, however, will resume this August.

Louis-Dreyfus was up against some fierce competition in her category beating out Alison Brie (GLOW), Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin (Grace and Frankie), and Uzo Aduba (Orange Is the New Black) for the honor.  So far, Veep has also picked up the award for Best Ensemble in a Comedy Series.

Congratulations, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and the cast of Veep!
