Josh O’Connor to Play Prince Charles in ‘The Crown’ Season 3

The Crown has officially found their new Prince Charles! Josh O’Connor (God’s Own Country) will be joining the new batch of actors stepping in for the decade-hopping seasons 3 and 4 alongside Olivia Colman who is replacing Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth.  As heir to the throne, the introduction of an older Prince Charles is something that fans of The Crown have been eagerly waiting for and O’Conner is more than excited to step into the notable role.

[row]“I am thrilled to be joining The Firm for the next installment of The Crown. Seasons 3 and 4 will follow some of the most turbulent events in the Prince of Wales’ life and our national story, and I’m excited to be bringing to life the man in the midst of it all. I’m very aware it’s a formidably talented family to be joining, but reliably informed I have the ears for the part and will fit right in,” the actor said in a statement.[/row]

In addition to O’Connor, it was also announced that Allied’s Marion Bailey would be playing the Queen Mother, replacing Victoria Hamilton.

The series is still looking for its Princess Diana, which not only will be a coveted role but also a huge one in the story’s narrative by the end of season 3 and moving into season 4.

Since season 3 will be making a significant time jump for the Royal family, Netflix had to recast all of its actors in order to reflect their proper ages. In addition to Colman as Queen Elizabeth, Outlander’s Tobias Menzies has been cast as Prince Phillip, taking over for Matt Smith. Matthew Goode’s character Lord Snowdon will now be portrayed by The Exorcist’s Ben Daniels, and the always captivating Helena Bohem Carter will be taking over Vanessa Kirby’s Princess Margaret. They will all be playing these roles for seasons 3 & 4 before another time jump takes place should the show be renewed for a season 5.

Last year, O’Connor won the Best Actor prize at the British Independent Film Awards for his starring role in God’s Own Country and has been on the rise in Britain for quite some time. In addition to The Crown, he will appear in the television adaption of Les Miserables alongside Dominic West, Lily Collins, David Oyelowo and his soon-to-be Crown co-star Olivia Colman. He also had a three-episode arc on Netflix’s Peaky Blinders.
