Jon Bernthal Has Been Spotted Near ‘The Walking Dead’ Set!
It looks like The Walking Dead may be cooking up something pretty epic for Andrew Lincoln’s final season on the series. Jon Bernthal, who played Rick’s best friend Shane Walsh during seasons 1 and 2, has been spotted by fans in Senoia, GA where the cast and crew are currently filming season 9.
He was first spotted in Senoia’s Walking Dead hotspot Nic & Norman’s, which is the restaurant opened and owned by Reedus and Executive Producer Greg Nicotero, with Reedus and Andrew Lincoln. You can spot him in the background of the image below:

He was then later spotted with Lincoln on a coffee run that resulted in this fun selfie.
We have to admit that the photo of the two laughing over some take-out surely brings us back to the better days of season 1.
Obviously, we know that Shane is not *returning* to the current story The Walking Dead as his character was killed by Carl in the season 2 finale after he and Rick’s friendship turned quite tumultuous while living on Hershel’s farm.
Although with season 9 being Lincoln’s final season on the series, Bernthal could be returning to the series in some sort of flashback as Rick reflects on his life both before and during the apocalypse. The series recently did a flashback with a young Rick and Carl, so it wouldn’t be too off base for them to do something similar for Rick’s departure, seeing how important Shane was in his early story.
With three films currently in production and a starring role on Netflix’s The Punisher, it’s very possible that Bernthal may have been close to the set for another project, or he may have wanted to plan a visit to see his buddies and old stomping grounds before Lincoln signs off for good. Either way, we sure would love to see Shane and Rick (and Daryl!) reunited one last time on screen, but if that doesn’t come to fruition, it’s so nice to know that the gang was back together behind the scenes!
Would you like to see a Rick and Shane flashback in season 9? Let us know!
Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
