Despite its box office success, Thor: Love and Thunder generated a lot of debate. Despite this, fans were mixed about the film’s success for different reasons. Fans of Taika Waititi are on the defensive now that MCU fans have started arguing that he shouldn’t ever work on another Marvel Cinematic Universe picture again.
It all began on Twitter when ReverendofC tweeted a picture of Waititi with the message “never let this man near another MCU project again.”
Others said that they didn’t want to see Waititi work on any more Thor films, and that his success in Thor: Ragnarok was little more than a fluke.
Fans of Taika Waititi reminded these Twitter users that he previously worked on Jojo Rabbit and Hunt for the Wilderpeople, two other successful films.
Fans had previously brought up the subject of whether or not Jojo Rabbit is a “Nazi-apologist” movie, with supporters pointing out that Waititi played Hitler in the film. Have you seen the film? It’s about a young boy who was once a Hitler admirer but grows away from his beliefs. Also… Waititi is Jewish, Needless to say, fans got defensive about this as well.
While some people may not have liked Thor: Love and Thunder, it has already brought in more than $300 million globally at the box office. Sure, it may not be as good as Thor: Ragnarok, but many fans appreciated his efforts regardless.
The new film Thor: Love and Thunder has now opened in theaters.
