Johnny Depp Acknowledges Feeling Marginalized Following Amber Heard Controversy, Declares Disinterest in Hollywood

Johnny Depp opens up about feeling excluded following Amber Heard controversy, expresses detachment from Hollywood’s influence

In an extensive media interview, Johnny Depp didn’t hold back when addressing questions for the first time since his defamation trial against ex-wife Amber Heard concluded. When asked if he felt boycotted by the industry that had propelled him to stardom, Depp provided a candid response.

“Did I feel boycotted by Hollywood? Well, you’d have to not have a pulse to feel at that point like this was all just a weird joke,” he shared during a press conference at the Cannes Film Festival, where he was promoting his upcoming film “Jeanne du Barry,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Depp continued, “Of course, when you’re asked to resign from a film you’re working on because of something that’s merely a combination of vowels and consonants floating in the air… Do I feel boycotted now? No, not at all. But I don’t feel boycotted because I don’t think about Hollywood. I don’t feel a significant need for Hollywood — I don’t know about you.”

During the first day of press activities at Cannes, Depp’s absence was notable among his cast and crew members, who were ready to field questions about the film. However, the moderator revealed that Depp would be making a delayed appearance.

Approximately 45 minutes into the conversation, Depp entered the room an

Depp also expressed his lack of interest in the media’s interpretation of his return to the big screen, questioning why his resurgence was being portrayed as a “comeback.”

“I keep wondering about the word ‘comeback’ because I didn’t go anywhere,” Depp remarked during the press conference. “I live about 45 minutes away.”

“Perhaps people stopped reaching out due to their fears at that time. But I didn’t disappear. I’ve been around. ‘Comeback’ implies that I’ll emerge and perform my best tap dance, hoping for approval. That’s the idea. It’s a peculiar enigma.”

“This is a very strange, amusing time when everyone wants to be true to themselves, but they can’t because they must conform to the expectations set by others,” Depp stated. “If you wish to follow that path, be my guest. I’ll be on the other side.”

Despite the controversial nature of his presence, Depp has been met with throngs of fans at the festival, some photographed displaying signs proclaiming “Viva Johnny” and “Congrats Johnny.”

During the press conference, Depp acknowledged the content written about him, stating, “The majority of what you’ve read in the last five or six years regarding me and my life is a beautifully and horrifically fabricated fiction. We’re here to discuss the film. But it’s like asking the question, ‘How are you doing?’ while the underlying subtext is, ‘God, I hate you.’ That’s the nature of media discourse.”
