Halle Berry, who portrayed Sofia in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, may be returning to the John Wick franchise in her own project. Director Chad Stahelski confirmed that there have been discussions about bringing back Berry’s character for a spinoff within the larger John Wick Universe. Stahelski expressed his dislike for the term “spinoff” but mentioned the intention to explore other satellite projects related to the Wick franchise.

Aside from the potential Berry-starring spinoff, there are two confirmed spin-offs in the works. Peacock is developing a limited series called The Continental, while Ballerina, a film starring Ana de Armas, is currently in production.

John Wick Director Confirms Halle Berry's Return to Franchise

The origins of Ballerina trace back to writer Shay Hatten, who was an intern for Robert Downey Jr. and a fan of the John Wick series. He wrote Ballerina as a spec script, featuring a female assassin named Rooney. The script was later adapted to fit into the John Wick universe, incorporating elements and characters from the franchise.

Producer Erica Lee shared insights into the development process, mentioning that the Ballerina script was in progress even before John Wick 3 was filmed. Over time, it underwent iterations and revisions to align with the evolving Wick world, incorporating new characters and refining the overall universe.

Ballerina is scheduled to hit theaters on June 7, 2024, while John Wick: Chapter 4 is available for digital purchase and will have its physical home media release on June 13th. The first three films in the John Wick franchise can be streamed on Tubi.
