John Wick: Chapter 4 Delivers a Thrilling Entry, and John Wick 5 Is Already in the Works
Following the success of John Wick: Chapter 4, the action franchise is gearing up for even more exciting adventures. Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chairman, Joe Drake, confirmed during a recent earnings call that John Wick 5 is currently in the early stages of development. This news comes as part of Lionsgate’s larger strategy to expand the John Wick universe through spin-offs, television series, and a regular cadence of content.
One of the upcoming expansions is Ballerina, a spinoff film centered around a retired ballerina assassin played by Ana de Armas. The story follows her journey back into the world of violence after her family is murdered. Directed by Len Wiseman, the film will feature the return of Keanu Reeves as John Wick and Ian McShane as Winston.
Lionsgate is also developing three other projects in addition to Ballerina and John Wick 5, including The Continental, a television series set in the John Wick universe. By expanding the world and exploring different perspectives, the studio aims to bring fresh experiences to audiences while maintaining the high-quality action for which the franchise is known.
The screenplay for Ballerina is penned by Shay Hatten, and the film is produced by Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, and Chad Stahelski, the director of the John Wick series. Stahelski, in collaboration with director Len Wiseman, plans to bring a unique approach to the action sequences, ensuring a fresh and captivating experience for fans.
