When Star Wars: The Last Jedi debuts, Finn will be in a bit of a predicament, well, that might be an understatement. He met Kylo Ren’s lightsaber in a battle and was badly wounded. The physical battle in the film wasn’t the only fight Finn was struggling with during the film. He also had a battle going on inside of his own head.
Finn was torn, and with good reason. He was born into the First Order and was molded to be a Stormtrooper, regardless of his distaste for the group as an entirety. Finn did escape but he is no exception to the rule that your past is always right around the corner, and sometimes it comes back to haunt you. At the end of The Force Awakens with Finn’s wound, fans were left with an open question about his future. In The Last Jedi, we’ll know which side he pledges his loyalty to.
At the recent Star Wars Celebration, John Boyega spoke to The Star Wars Show about Finn’s choice between The Resistance and The First Order.
‘I think Finn is at a point where he needs to find his place now. When he stabilizes and wakes up, it’s time to choose his side. Are you part of the Resistance or are you going to continue running from the First Order? This film follows his journey to deciding – and when he does decide – it’s game on.‘
While he obviously can’t reveal much – he did say it’s a choice that Finn knows he has to make, and once he does it, it’s not something he’ll waver on.
He also spoke to Fandango and said something similar about Finn’s choice and being back in action.
“Yeah very physical, very physical. He’s on a new mission, there’s a new goal now. The Resistance is under immense pressure. The First Order is back and badder than ever, and it requires Finn to make a choice as to what side he’s on.”
The Last Jedi is slated for a December 15th, 2017 release.
