Game of Thrones: Jerome Flynn Shares How He Wanted Bronn’s Story to End

There are very few who can say that they survived all eight seasons of Game of Thrones, but Jerome Flynn is one of them. During Con of Thrones 2019, Flynn took the stage to reflect upon Bronn’s journey from sellsword to Lord of Highgarden and Master of Coin. Despite ending up in a good position, Flynn had a few ideas on where he wanted Bronn’s story to go.

Bronn was absent for most of Season 8, but left an impact as his final appearance until the finale was holding Jamie and Tyrion as crossbow point. Flynn commented that he never thought Bronn would actually kill Tyrion. He recognized that in order to get what he wanted–a castle–he could use Tyrion to gain it. Flynn joked that Bronn probably would’ve killed Jamie.

“I think he had a real soft spot for Tyrion. I mean, he did, because I was playing him. There was a fondness for him that he probably had not had with another guy before. Some love grew there for Jamie, but he’s ready to lose him.”

Flynn also admitted that he had wanted Bronn to go out a hero. He wanted to be there with everyone during the big battles, acting the hero. Unfortunately, that wasn’t in the cards, but at least Bronn succeeded in his series-long goal. “He got his f— castle,” laughed Flynn. “That’s all that matter.”

And how did Flynn wish for things to play out with Bronn? Going back to Season 7, Flynn thinks things would’ve gone very differently if only Daenerys had gotten a good look at Bronn during the loot train fight. Flynn thinks they would’ve been quite the pair. He then fantasized about him and Daenerys in their castle with Jamie serving them tea. “Just as well I wasn’t writing,” he joked.

Later, during a panel with Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jamie Lannister), Flynn asked if he would take the job. To which Coster-Waldau replied that he would, but wanted to know what he was wearing. In the end, it’s better than being dead.
