As The Walking Dead’s seventh season drew to a close, a war was beginning that aimed to dethrone Negan and the Saviors. Negan has crossed many groups, taken their lives and their belongings, and turned them into pawns in his own game. He is relentless in his rule – it’s Negan’s way or the zombie infested highway. When our favorite characters met Negan, all hell broke loose, and things haven’t been the same since. Rick’s group is meant to be at odds with Negan, and on screen, it translates perfectly. They absolutely hate him, they want vengeance for the lives that Negan and the Saviors have taken; and they’ll stop at nothing to end his frightening reign.
Off-screen, however, the cast are all incredibly close. This comes as no surprise to longtime fans of the show, in fact, it would be more shocking if they didn’t all get along so well. Even with the addition of the worst villain of all time, the cast grew closer, likely due to the charisma of Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Honestly, you can’t blame them. Jeffrey makes you feel like an old friend within moments of meeting him, and they get to work together almost every day. When we talk about The Walking Dead family it’s not just the fans, it’s the cast too, it’s everyone.
When Sasha took charge of her life, and her death, during the season 7 finale on Sunday, fans and the cast were heartbroken. She was a bright light and everyone who crossed paths with Sasha took to her immediately, this was even true for Negan. He was mesmerized by her, even in her death, and Jeffrey was just as enchanted by Sonequa. In fact, after the episode, he tweeted a photo of the two and said he’d miss her (won’t we all) but that he was excited to watch her conquer other galaxies.

Sonequa was cast in Star Trek: Discovery recently so fans expected her time on The Walking Dead to be drawing to an unfortunate end. While she’ll be sorely missed on the series, it won’t be the last fans get to see of her, and we’re happy about that.
We too are excited to see her conquer those other galaxies, and then take on what comes her way next. Congratulations Sonequa, and thanks for all the memories you gave us with Sasha!
