Jeffrey Dean Morgan takes home ‘Best Villain Award’ as Negan on The Walking Dead

Jeffrey Dean Morgan has taken on roles from a dying man in a hospital bed who falls in love with a nurse to a ‘supernatural’ father and even an investigator (and like, the perfect man) in his time as an actor. All of the roles he’s embraced have made an impact, and in large that’s because of who he is as a person.

In acting, talent goes so far, then it’s charisma and a sense of self that truly make a character stand out. In Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s latest role, he proves that to be especially true as he takes on Negan in The Walking Dead.

We are wired to hate Negan for everything that he is, and rightfully so. He comes across a group of characters we’ve grown to love and kills two of them in an incredibly brutal and bloody way. After that, he makes the remaining characters fall in line or fall apart, and then, he takes some more lives.

So why do so many of us actually like Negan? It certainly has to do with Jeffrey himself, and if you’ve been to our conventions, you can agree with us there. He embraces Negan on set and off, but when he’s not in his full ‘bat-wielding’ glory, he’s still bad ass, just a little less frightening about it. It also has to do with the fact that he brings a sense of ‘human’ to a man who’s meant to be a monster.

That charm isn’t just something we see because we’ve had the privilege of working with him, it’s something fans across the world see, and that was proven with his win for ‘Best Villain’ at the MTV Movie & TV Awards on May 7th.

While he couldn’t be there in person, he did thank fans with a Tweet that sums up who he is as a person. Both humble and unapologetically and confidently himself.

We are proud of Jeffrey for his win and anxious to see what happens with him in season 8 and the ones that follow. We should be seeing more of Negan’s backstory in the upcoming episodes and we’re so curious to see how Jeffrey will bring Negan’s story to life, not just in the present, but the past as well.

Congratulations Jeffrey, you’re our favorite (not entirely) bad guy!
