Jeffery Dean Morgan Talks Being Bad-and Rick’s Bad Side

Ever since he first appeared in the Season 6 finale, Negan has for sure been the most devastating and wicked villain in the history of The Walking Dead. In a recent interview on Good Morning America for his new movie Rampage, Jeffery Dean Morgan stated that he’s not necessarily the only ‘bad guy’ on the show. He believes that even though Negan is wicked, and may be considered bad but it’s all about perspective.

When asked by Good Morning America co-host Michael Strahan if there were any chance of redemption for Negan, Morgan stated that steps were at one point being taken:

“We were making steps at some redemption, and I think if we find out more of his backstory and how he became Negan. I think at this point in the story, everybody who has made it this far in this apocalypse has done some very horrible things. If we had been following Negan for eight years, we would be on Negan’s side and Rick would be horrible. I mean, look at the stuff these guys have done, they’re at least as bad as what I’ve done.”

He may have a point here. The more we think about it, the more we realize that Rick has made some terrible decisions over the course of eight seasons on The Walking Dead. Like any leader, sometimes being in that seat calls for us to make impossible decisions. Although Rick may have occasionally taken things a bit too far, he usually has some sort of regret about what he has done, unlike Negan, who doesn’t seem to feel much remorse at all for some of his more wicked deeds. It really is all about perspective, and both men doing what they think is best for their people in order to survive.

Regardless of both parties’ moral decisions, there always does have to be a bad guy according to Jeffrey Dean Morgan:

“But there’s gotta be a villain. And I’m the villain,”

The Walking Dead season 8 finale will air on April 15th at 9PM on AMC.
