Jason O’Mara Joins the ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Cast

The wait is finally over, after Coulson revealed at the end of season 3 that there would be a new director of S.H.I.E.L.D everyone was trying to guess who that might be. Marvel announced yesterday that the roll of director will be filled by Jason O’Mara. The site reports that O’Mara will play a character with comic roots that go back to the 1940’s. Marvel’s head of television Jeph Loeb said, “Bringing Jason into the mix as the New Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. forces everyone, particularly Coulson, to reevaluate their role in the Agency. Jason has both the physical presence and acting dynamics that will connect with and challenge even the most loyal agent.”

O’Mara will now join the ranks of Ben Affleck, Halle Berry, Ryan Reynolds, Jon Bernthal, and many others as actors who have crossed the great divide and played or voiced characters in both the DC and Marvel universes. O’Mara is the current voice of Batman himself in the animated feature films that have been rolling out two a year since 2014. ABC was looking like it was going to have as big of a Marvel universe as CW does DC, the difference being all of Marvel is interconnected from the ABC shows, to the Netflix shows, and the films. At the end of last season with ratings not being what they had anticipated with S.H.I.E.L.D. or Agent Carter ABC did not renew Agent Carter and let the S.H.I.E.L.D. spin off, Marvel’s Most Wanted slowly go dark. Hopefully changing the cast up and having the ABC/Marvel team focus solely on one show they can make it fantastic and bring those ratings back up.

Jason O’Mara can be seen in the upcoming film Jadotville with Jamie Dornan yet this year.

Marvel’s Agent’s of S.H.I.E.L.D. will return for its 4th season September 20th at 10pm, until then you can catch up on the previous 3 seasons on Netflix.
