Just when you think Legendary’s Dune reboot can’t possibly get any better, a brand new cast member was announced today as being in talks for a role.
Aquaman himself, Jason Momoa, is currently in negotiations to join the fully-stacked cast in the role of Duncan Idaho. Momoa, fresh off of his box office success with Aquaman, had recently shared on his Instagram story feed that was he was attending a meeting at Legendary’s studio offices. The video showed Momoa excitedly leaving the building and teasing to his fans that he was incredibly excited about what’s coming next. We can now safely assume he was referring to the Dune casting.
Momoa joins an unbelievably impressive cast including Timothée Chalamet (Beautiful Boy), Rebecca Ferguson (The Greatest Showman), and Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy) in Legendary’s upcoming film. Oscar Isaac and Zendaya were also previously announced as being in talks to join the film as well and Marvel’s Josh Brolin has signed on as well.
The film is based on the epic 1965 novels written by Frank Herbert. Chalamet will play the lead role of Paul Atreides, a young nobleman whom the story revolves around. Deadline describes the storyline as, “set in the far future involving worlds beyond Earth, ruled over by competing, feudal families who control access to a drug called Melange. Known popularly as “spice,” the drug gives its users heightened consciousness and an extended lifespan at the cost of crippling addiction and fatal withdrawal. Spice, use of which makes interstellar travel possible, is found only on the desert planet of Arrakis — aka “Dune” — and as such is the most valuable commodity in the galaxy.”
Dune was first released as a film in 1984 and starred Twin Peaks star Kyle MacLachlan in the main role and was directed by David Lynch.
There’s no word yet on a project release date for the film.
