Jared Leto’s Joker is back!
After making his debut in 2016’s Suicide Squad, Leto is set to reprise his Clown Prince of Crime in a solo Joker movie.
In addition to starring, Leto is also an executive-producer for the yet-unnamed Warner Bros. project. There is still no writer or director on board yet. This project looks to expand upon Leto’s Joker as he wasn’t featured a lot in Suicide Squad.
The solo Joker film would be set within the DC Extended Universe. This is the same universe as Suicide Squad, Justice League, Wonder Woman, and the upcoming Aquaman. This project will expand upon the universe.
Warner Bros. also has sights set on a direct sequel to Suicide Squad and a spin-off movie featuring Harley Quinn, the Joker’s on-again, off-again girlfriend, played by Margot Robbie.
It’s currently unknown when this film would go into production, or if it would shoot before or after the Suicide Squad sequel, which is said to go into production in 2019.
This project is not to be confused with another potential Joker origin movie taking place outside the DCEU, with Joaquin Phoenix eyed to play Batman’s archenemy. This film falls under a new origins category that allows multiple actors to play the same character with no overlap.
