Jamie Lee Curtis Says she Cried Throughout Filming of ‘Halloween’ Sequel

There is a reason Jamie Lee Curtis agreed to return as her signature horror movie heroine, Laurie Strode, in the new Halloween sequel. Part of the reason is that she wrongly believed that the role wouldn’t require her to put in a lot of work because the movies prime focus would be on her daughter Karen, played by Judy Greer and granddaughter Allyson, played by Andi Matichak.

Curtis recently told EW that when she first glanced at the script, her role seemed low key.

“I really focused on [the characters played by] Andi and Judy. When I first got sent the script, I literally said, ‘Look, you guys, I’m in it so little, you can shoot me out in, like, five days.’ ”

It was when she landed in the filming city of Charleston, South Carolina that she realized her mistake. She then began rehearsals with director David Gordon Green. Her character had undergone a lot of trauma and mental damage at the hands of killer Michael Myers in the original film 40 years earlier.

“I started crying the day I arrived. I didn’t stop crying until the day I left. I didn’t expect it. I knew [Laurie] would be fierce, I knew she’d be galvanized, I knew I’d be tired, I knew I would work hard. I did not know that it would move me so deeply, the whole experience of the movie. It took me a good month [to recover].”

Curtis had also injured herself on set while filming the the big run-in with the killer.

“I cracked my rib [shooting] those last sequences. By the end of that sequence, not just the stuntman was taking Advil. We all were taking lots of Advil. I mean, obviously, there were stunt people involved, but all of the fighting is all me. Or a great, great majority of it is.”

Hearing Jamie Lee Curtis talk about her experiences on set just makes us more anxious to see the long awaited film, and especially her performance.

The sequel with the same name, Halloween, hits theaters on October 19, 2018.
