James Gunn Says Fans Shouldn’t Skip ‘Ant-Man and The Wasp’

Ant-Man and The Wasp may have just begun its early screenings, but critics are already loving the movie and applauding the breath of fresh air that the Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly sequel provides after Infinity War. The Peyton Reed film is being dubbed as charming, fun, inventive and an all-around entertaining follow-up to 2015’s first installment.

Of course, while the praise of critics is always appreciated, it’s the cheers from other Marvel players that truly warms the heart. Guardians of the Galaxy helmer James Gunn recently attended a screening of the film on Monday night and took to Twitter shortly after to reveal his thoughts.

The full tweet reads:

“Ant-Man and the Wasp is everything you want it to be,” Gunn wrote. “Hilarious, sweet, moving, & wall-to-wall fun. Killer work @MrPeytonReed! And great performances by @EvangelineLilly, @hannahjk1 & of course @Dastmalchian. I loved it! (Pro tip: see it before Avengers 4!)”

Gunn, whose Guardians films often receive similar shout-outs for being humorous and fun, was sure to mention Evangeline Lily who plays Hope Van Dyne/The Wasp, Hannah John Kamen who plays the film’s villain Ghost, and David Dastmalchian (below), who will once again be playing Kurt, an accomplice of Luis (Michael Pena) and Scott (Paul Rudd).

Gunn also provides a quick little tease that it’s vital to see Ant-Man and The Wasp before seeing  Avengers 4.  Scott and Hope were nowhere to be seen during Infinity War but according to one Twitter review, their absence is definitely addressed in the film. Ant-Man and The Wasp will take place prior to the events of Avengers: Infinity War and it looks like something happens in the film that will shape the narrative of Avengers 4. Perhaps we see someone fall victim to Thanos’s finger snap?

Marvel Studios President has echoed this hint about Ant-Man and The Wasp before.

Ant-Man and The Wasp also directly connects to Avengers 4. These characters are going to be very important going forward.”

Starring Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Pena, Michael Douglas, Michelle Pfieffer, Walton Goggins and Hannah John Kamen, Ant-Man and the Wasp  follows Scott Lang as he struggles to balance being both a Super Hero and a father as Hope van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym present an urgent new mission that finds the Ant-Man and The Wasp fighting to uncover secrets from their past. The movie hits theaters July 6, 2018!
