Hide your gazebo pills!  Stay away from the sewers!  The sequel to the box office smash it IT is already in development and has just claimed a release date in September of 2019.

The first installment of the film is still going strong at the box office.  In fact, Andy Muschietti’s part 1 remake of the 1990 classic miniseries has just become the highest grossing horror film of all time.  IT has overtaken the top spot from the 1973 horror classic The Exorcist.

Part 1 introduced us to the terrifying, shape-shifting clown as well as to the children versions of an unlikely group of heroes, the Losers Club.  The film is directed by Muschietti and stars Bill Skarsgard as Pennywise, along with the Losers Club kids Jaeden Lieberher, Finn Wolfhard, Jack Dylan Grazer, Wyatt Oleff, Chosen Jacobs, Jeremy Ray Taylor and Sophia Lillis.

Part 2 of the film will follow the Losers Club once again but, this time, they will be adults.  Pennywise the Clown returns every 27 years to terrorize the town of Derry.  While the adult roles have yet to be cast, in a recent interview, Muschietti confirmed that the children featured in the first film will have roles in the sequel with extensive plot significance.  We’re not talking about quick, little flashbacks here.

Additionally, Muschietti has said we can expect the second film to take on a darker twist, especially when it comes to one member of the Losers Club, in particular, Mike.  We can expect to see a darker, heavier twist when it comes to his character.

Muschietti has solid, specific ideas and a clear vision as to what he wants to see come to life in the sequel film and after his amazing, and stunning work on the first film, we can’t wait to see the next chapter of IT!

We will have to wait for it, however.  Two whole years!  The new film’s official release date is September 6, 2019 (the same post-Labor Day weekend during which the first film was released).

Have you seen IT yet?  What do you think of the movie?  Are you excited for the sequel?  Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below!
