Netflix has been releasing all kind of originals this year. From movies to TV Shows they have really been hit and miss with their lineup. One of those up for debate on the “hit or miss” is the sitcom ‘Disjointed’ starring the amazing (Kathy Bates) as Ruth Whitefeather Feldman who runs Ruth’s Alternative Caring Marijuana dispensary along with her son Travis (Aaron Moten)with an M.B.A who tries to bring her into the new age of business practices.
There is a wide cast of characters from her Security Guard Carter (Tone Bell) who suffers from PTSD from being in the war as well as other a mix of assorted employees. I would say her dedicated customer base brings the best comic relief like Maria (Nicole Sullivan) and the YouTube Celebrity Potheads Dabby (Betsy Sodaro) and Dank (Chris Redd).
‘Disjointed’ has brought mixed reviews across the board. With a powerhouse duo of Chuck Lorre and Kathy Bates at the helm, the critics excepted a certain level of comedic perfection that just wasn’t there. However, it did do ok among most of the average viewers. There are so many one-liners and pot “puns” that fell flat because there are only so many ways you can make weed jokes funny without well I guess smoking it. The best part is the “commercials” that are added to the series that bring the biggest laughs.
As for my opinion, it did take me about three episodes before I got into it however my love of Kathy Bates in a comedic role kept me on board and I didn’t give up. However, you must have an open mind and a twisted sense of humor and patience to make it through the slow parts but if you do all of those things you just might enjoy the show and it doesn’t even have to be 4:20 in the afternoon.
