If there is one thing that stands out among the rest on Netflix, it is their Marvel Netflix original series. Most notably, the show that started it all – Daredevil. After receiving raving reviews from both critics and viewers alike, Netflix and Marvel went on to not only produce a Second Season – but several other shows. Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist arrived on the streaming service just shortly after. The charismatic quartet all finally came together in the recent The Defenders, which was essentially the all star team-up we had hoped for.
While there are no current updates on the whereabouts for Daredevil Season 3, Season 1 show-runner Steven S. DeKnight doesn’t plan on stopping his creative train anytime soon. He is, infact, totally game for making a Moon Knight series for Netflix.
The subject matter of a potential Moon Knight series has been brought up by many fans in the past. He may not be a A-list superhero, but he is one whose story has a ripe opportunity. While promoting the release of Pacific Rim: Uprising on home video, Steven S. DeKnight was asked about the possibility of including the character in Daredevil and revealed that he is into the idea of doing Moon Knight as its own show:
“I never considered including Moon Knight in Daredevil. Somebody asked me on Twitter a while back if I would do Moon Knight and I’ve always been a huge Moon Knight fan and yeah, if I had the time in my schedule and the stars aligned, I’d love to do Moon Knight. I mean, I love the whole multiple personality. Is he crazy? Is he not crazy? Has he really gotten these mystical powers? Are they supernatural or is it all in his head? I think it would make for a very, very interesting Marvel universe kind of Netflix show. I also hope they’ll expand and give him a shot sometime.”
Moon Knight first appeared in the world of Marvel Comics back in 1975 when he jumped into the comic line Werewolf by Night. In 1980, he was given his own comic book line, and he still maintains that line today. Moon Knight, known as Marc Spector, is a crimefighter who gained his powers by an ancient Egyptian God and absorbs his power from the moon. Many Marvel fans have referred to Moon Knight as the ‘Batman’ of Marvel comics.
James Gunn at one point pitched a Moon Knight movie to Marvel Studios, but since he is committed to the Guardians of the Galaxy series at the current moment. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige recently stated that the character is in fact in play for the MCU and will appear…. at some point.
“Yes,” Feige told ScreenRant. “Does that mean five years from now, 10 years from now, 15 years from now? There are stacks of character cards that we have in our, in our development offices, which we look at. Which we pull for him, which we discussed.”
As much as I love Moon Knight I strongly believe that he is a character that you need a Netflix series for. His character is extremely complex, and it may not be enough time to cover his whole story in a 120 minute movie. Then again, that is what sequels are for!
Either way, I am extremely excited to see that the character is on the radar of both Netflix and Kevin Feige!
What do you think? Would you like to see a Moon Knight movie?
