Inauguration Week: Saying Goodbye to Sunny and Bo

Inauguration Day is just a day away and there are some very special canine friends who we want to say goodbye to.

Pets have become a staple in the White House, in fact 32 presidents have had dogs as pets! Talk about man’s best friend.

Sunny and Bo, Obama’s Portuguese Water Dogs, have had their run of the White House for the past 8 years. (Sunny since late 2013) So let’s take a look at some highlights.

Bo, with his white paws, was given to the Obamas by Senator Kennedy.

Sunny, who is all black, came to the White House in 2013.

Bo was a gift for Sasha and Malia. Obama promised them that they could get a dog after the election. Even though he was for the girls, he seems to be pretty found of his dad.

These pups are super spoiled. But that’s not a bad thing! Take a look at Bo celebrating his birthday with a party. That’s right, cookies don’t have calories on your birthday!

They even have replica statues made of them for the holidays! Here’s a festive Christmas display. The pair are seated uner a poem to America from Bo and Sunny themselves.

And for Halloween one year, the statues were dressed up in costume. Sunny went as a sunflower and Bo was a pirate for the day. How cute.

And finally: One last walk through the house with their mom, Michelle. :'(
