How Did Captain Carter Get Her Powers In Marvel’s What If…?
Marvel’s What If…? is finally here and has given us an awesome first episode. We’ve seen what happens when Peggy Carter becomes the new Captain America! Or, in this case, Captain Carter! She kicks ass, and even Steve has a new role in this alternate reality. For now, let’s talk about the choice that made Captain Carter.
From this point forward this article will spoil events from the first episode of Marvel’s What If…? so if you haven’t seen it yet, I suggest you come back a little later after you’ve seen the episode. We knew that different choices would cause different realities. I don’t think we realized such small choices could lead to entirely different outcomes. It’s near the beginning of the episode that we learn this. Where we learn the choice that alters the history of the MCU.
The choice is so small that it’s surprising it could lead to everything we saw in this episode of Marvel’s What If…? but it did. The choice that results in a different Super Soldier is Peggy Carter stays.
In Captain America: The First Avenger Peggy Carter is asked to leave the room while Steve undergoes the procedure. In Marvel’s What If…? she stays. This leads to her noticing the Hydra/Nazi agent and in the end, Steve gets shot. Luckily he lives.
Still, he’s in no condition to become a super soldier, and they’re about to lose the project for good. With no other choice, Peggy straps in and undergoes the procedure, emerging as a super-soldier.
Isn’t crazy that as small of a decision as that results in a completely different history? Luckily, Peggy was as much the hero as Steve was and thanks to her the allies are able to win the war. They defeat both Hydra and the Nazis.
We’re really looking forward to what else Marvel’s What If…? has in store for us. And at least now we know the choice that made Captain Carter!
