It’s a ‘House’ Reunion! Lisa Edelstein to Recur on ‘The Good Doctor’ Season 2

A brand new face will be joining San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital during The Good Doctor‘s second season. House star Lisa Edelstein is set to recur on the series for several episodes next season making her debut during the season two premiere.

Edelstein’s character just might be the key to Dr. Aaron Glassman’s (played by Richard Schiff) survival. At the end of The Good Doctor‘s first season, it was revealed in a shocking twist that Dr. Glassman was suffering from a rare form of cancer, and ultimately was dying. The season’s finale episode centered around Dr. Shaun Murphy (played by Freddie Highmore) refusing to accept the diagnosis and researching how he could save his friend and mentor, by any means possible. Deadline reports that Edelstein will play Dr. Blaize, a recently suspended expert oncologist who returns to St. Bonaventure at Dr. Glassman’s request in order to help with his cancer treatments.

Edelstein is best known for her role on Fox’s hit medical series House where she played the role of Dr. Lisa Cuddy, Dean of Medicine. House was written and executive produced by David Shore who is also the creator of The Good Doctor. Edelstein’s involvement with The Good Doctor reunites her with Shore for a mini House reunion (can anybody call Hugh Laurie? Please? We need this to happen!). Edelstein can currently be seen in the fifth and final season of Bravo’s A Girlfriend’s Guide to Divorce.

We know that season 2 of the series will focus on Dr. Shaun Murphy’s (Highmore) challenges at the hospital, as well as on his relationship with his love interest (and returning fan favorite character) Lea (played by Paige Spara). Freddie Highmore has confirmed, however, that Shaun’s relationship with Dr. Aaron Glassman (played by Richard Schiff) is really the heart of the season two storyline. With Edelstein’s addition and upcoming role, you can bet that we will see some of Dr. Glassman’s struggles as he goes through treatment (we hope) for his illness.

In addition to Highmore, Schiff, and Spara, The Good Doctor also stars Antonia Thomas, Nicholas Gonzalez, Beau Garrett, Hill Harper, Will Yun Lee, Fiona Gubelmann, and Christina Chang. In addition to creating and writing, Shore also serves executive producer along with Lost and Hawaii Five-O alum Daniel Dae Kim.

The Good Doctor returns to ABC Monday nights this fall.
