‘Heroes’ Alum Sendhil Ramamurthy to Recur on NBC’s ‘New Amsterdam’

Sendhil Ramamurthy is gearing up to play a new kind of “hero”. The Heroes alum is scrubbing into NBC’s new medical drama New Amsterdam for a recurring role in the newly ordered 22-episode freshman season. Not much is known about his role except that he will be playing a new doctor.

New Amsterdam follows Dr. Max Goodwin (The Blacklist’s Ryan Eggold), a new medical director at America’s oldest public hospital who sets out to break all the rules and heal the fractured system. The series also stars Janet Montgomery, Freema Agyeman, Jocko Sims, Tyler Labine, and Anupam Kher. Since its debut, New Amsterdam has quickly dominated its Tuesday night post-This Is Us timeslot, earning a full season order in early October. The series premiere raked in 8.4 million total viewers and had only slipped to 7.1 million by its third episode.

Ramamurthy is best known for his role as geneticist Mohinder Suresh on NBC’s sci-fi drama Heroes, which ran for four seasons from 2006-2010. He reprised the role in 2015 for the miniseries Heroes Reborn. Other credits include recurring roles on The CW’s Beauty and the Beast and USA’s Covert Affairs. You can currently catch him in the indie film After Everything, which follows the ups and downs of a young couple (Shameless’ Jeremy Allen White and It Follows’ Maika Monroe) after one of them receives a cancer diagnosis.

Are you excited to see Ramamurthy scrub in? New Amsterdam is currently airing Tuesdays on NBC!
