Andrew Lincoln and Lauren Cohan may be on their way out in The Walking Dead’s ninth season, but they are front and center in the latest promo art just released by AMC. The first look certainly poses a lot of questions as to just what the game-changing season 9 is going to entail and now we’re even more excited for what’s to come. The group is currently residing in and around Alexandria, VA, but the photo reveals that they’ll be heading to the Nation’s Capital, which doesn’t look to have been faring well either. Check out the photo below!
Here are some of our first reactions!
Nothing signifies a fresh start more than a new hairstyle and Rick is definitely rocking a cool new look, although, Daryl doesn’t seem to quite agree with this tactic. We know that Rick Grimes will be leaving the series sometime in the first half of season 9 and even though we aren’t sure exactly how yet, we expect it to be an epic farewell.
New showrunner Angela Kang confirmed that there will be a time jump in season 9 and since Maggie still doesn’t look pregnant in the photo, let’s hope that she’s already given birth to baby Rhee by the season premiere!
The Walking Dead has consistently and mysteriously used helicopters throughout the past eight seasons and it looks like we may be getting an answer as to what this past season’s helicopter could lead to. To see all of the times a helicopter has appeared on the show head here!
It’s always fun when a new setting is introduced on the series and we are loving this tease that the group is heading to DC. With audiences having felt a bit of Negan fatigue these past few seasons, it’s exciting and a welcomed change of pace to see them sending some characters to the big city.
In the past, The Walking Dead cover art tends to include nearly the entire cast so we think it’s worth mentioning that the fab 5 of Rick, Daryl, Maggie, Michonne, and Carol are the only ones present here. With the two key cast members leaving, the photo could be hinting that season 9 will go back to its early roots and focus on these beloved characters a lot more.
The Walking Dead cast will be heading to San Diego Comic-Con this month for a panel to be hosted by superfan Yvette Nicole Brown. Since AMC decided to release this promo art ahead of it, we think it’s safe to say there will be some exclusive footage or a trailer revealed at the con. The Walking Dead returns for season 9 this October!
What do you think of the photo? Any theories? Let us know!
Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
