The Walking Dead: Why Dwight Wasn’t In The Season Finale!

Published on April 6th, 2021 | Updated on April 6th, 2021 | By FanFest

Dwight and Negan have a long history, that for sure. Remember the time Negan burned part of Dwight’s face off? Because I strongly suspect that Dwight remembers. They never really got along after that, though I can’t possibly imagine why. It should have been easy street from there. Dwight wasn’t in the season finale, though. Angela Kang, showrunner of The Walking Dead, explained why Dwight wasn’t in “Here’s Negan“. The episode was actually all about Negan and his origins. We got to see Negan’s wife, the origin of his bat, and even the first time he killed a man. It was actually very humbling, to see the kind of man that Negan used to be. It certainly makes it easier to understand how and why he became the leader of the saviors. The last time we saw Dwight on The Walking Dead is when Daryl banished him. We’ve seen him on Fear The Walking Dead since then, though.

Kang spoke to EW about it and explained how they originally had wanted to bring Dwight back for The Walking Dead season finale. It seems like one of the main reasons they couldn’t get Dwight back is actually because of Covid-19. It makes sense that the pandemic would have affected the filming schedules of both shows. The scheduling issues is what ultimately led to Dwight not being able to make it. Since he’s playing a role in the current season of Fear The Walking Dead I suppose he can’t exactly just wander off to his old stomping grounds. Still, I think it’s kind of disappointing since it would have been fun to see the character return. Perhaps we could have even had a reunion with Negan! Since they couldn’t get Dwight back, we got Laura instead!

The Walking Dead will return for its final season this upcoming August 24th!
