News for Fans, By Fans!

Here’s How the ‘Roseanne’ Revival is Going to Include Both Sarah Chalke and Lecy Goranson (aka. Both Beckys)

When Roseanne returns this Spring, there are a few things that aren’t going to quite line up with where the original series left off back in 1997.

For starters, Dan (played by John Goodman) is alive in the new revival series!  Fans of the original run will remember that big reveal in the series finale episode when we found out that Dan had died from a heart attack.  For the revival series, however, it has been confirmed by ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey that, while the show won’t completely ignore all that happened in that finale episode, Goodman’s character will be alive and well.

The other casting detail which has fans complete puzzled is the incorporation of both Sarah Chalke and Lecy Goranson – both Beckys!  Goranson originated the role and played the character in the first 5 seasons.  Eventually, Goranson went off to college in real life and the role of Roseanne’s oldest daughter was taken over by Sarah Chalke.

The revival series will feature both actresses but, here’s the catch.  Only one of them will be the real Becky!  It was revealed today that Goranson will be reprising the role while Chalke will be playing a different part in the series.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Chalke will be playing a middle-class married woman named Andrea who hires Becky (Goranson) to serve as her surrogate.  It’s a brilliant and modern way to incorporate both actresses and to also provide their characters with an intimate connection.

What do you think about the plan to incorporate both Sarah Chalke and Lecy Goranson into the upcoming Roseanne revival?  Roseanne returns to television March 27, 2018, at 8 PM on ABC!
