According to Esquire, early screenings of Hereditary at this year’s Sundance Film Festival have critics claiming it to be “one of the scariest in years”. And coming off the heels the Oscar-nominated Get Out, Hereditary is also receiving award-worthy buzz.
“Hereditary takes the core haunting element of a spirit with a malevolent agenda and runs with it in a seemingly endless series of unexpected directions over two breathless hours of escalating terror that never slackens for a minute.” – Source: The Hollywood Reporter
Horror has always been a staple in the film industry and creators are continually searching for new ways to quench our insatiable appetite for terror. It seems that vampires, werewolves and zombies are simply not enough… audiences need to feel a certain reality, to consider that just maybe their biggest fear could, in fact, come to fruition. Given the success of shows like American Horror Story and Black Mirror, we have undoubtedly upped the ante on what we view as true terror. Not only are we seeing a greater cinematic focus on fright, we are seeing it done in first-class fashion, in a way that mimics those that did it best.

The way the movie uses ghosts to tap the hidden impulses of its characters is very much in the mood of The Shining. And there’s a distinct touch of The Wicker Man in how the ghosts turn out to be a terrifying sort of cult.” – Source: Variety
