Harvey Weinstein Terminated from his Own Company Amid Sexual Harassment Allegations

Over the course of the last 5 days, Harvey Weinstein has been accused of sexual harassment spanning more than two decades. He stepped down from his position within his company on Thursday and by Sunday, the company he created released a statement that he’d been terminated.

The extent of films Harvey has executive produced in Hollywood is massive, and spans four decades-nevermind the amount of projects his company had a hand in as a whole. Every other is an award winning film. His company has had a huge hand in setting the current tone in Hollywood.

To name a few:

The Mist, Fahrenheit 911, Project Runway, Scream films, Spy Kids, The King’s Speech, Rambo, Lord of the Rings, Inglourious Basterds, Django Unchained, Seal Team Six, Silver Linings Playbook, Mob Wives, My Week With Marilyn, Apollo 18, Good Will Hunting, Pulp Fiction, Air Bud and the list goes on.

The statement Weinstein made when he stepped down on Thursday was lengthy and brought up everything from when he came of age in the business to what he planned to do to secure a future. However, things have changed immensely since then.

I came of age in the 60’s and 70’s, when all the rules about behavior and workplaces were different. That was the culture then. I have since learned it’s not an excuse, in the office – or out of it. To anyone. I realized some time ago that I needed to be a better person and my interactions with the people I work with have changed. I appreciate the way I’ve behaved with colleagues in the past has caused a lot of pain, and I sincerely apologize for it. Though I’m trying to do better, I know I have a long way to go. That is my commitment.’

The statement can be read in full, here.

On Friday, his company agreed to work diligently with the independent law firm they hired to investigate the claims made against him.

‘We believe it is important to learn the full truth regarding the article’s very serious accusations, in the interests of the Company, its shareholders, and its employees. Working with Mr. Kiernan will be his partners Matthew Fishbein, former Chief Assistant United States Attorney for both the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, and Helen Cantwell, former prosecutor in the Southern District of New York and the New York County District Attorney’s Sex Crimes Unit, who have extensive experience in these kinds of investigations. The investigating lawyers will be reporting to a special committee of the board composed exclusively of independent directors.’

By Sunday, the Weinstein Company announced that Harvey had been terminated.

‘In light of new information about misconduct by Harvey Weinstein that has emerged in the past few days, the directors of The Weinstein Company — Robert Weinstein, Lance Maerov, Richard Koenigsberg and Tarak Ben Ammar — have determined, and have informed Harvey Weinstein, that his employment with The Weinstein Company is terminated, effective immediately.’

The question on the minds of many is what will happen to the future projects and the Weinstein Company as a whole. What we know now is that his brother Bob Weinstein and President David Glasser are running the company and doing everything they can to distance the company from Harvey.
