Today we celebrate another The Walking Dead family birthday!! Happy 52nd Birthday to our very own Melissa McBride!
Melissa was born on May 23, 1965 in Lexington, Kentucky. She began her acting career in a few television commercials but made her series debut on Matlock. She later went on to guest star in other series, such as American Gothic, In the Heat of the Night, Walker, Texas Ranger, Profiler and Dawson’s Creek.
Some of her television film credits include Close to Danger, Her Deadly Rival, Pirates of Silicon Valley and Any Place But Home. While working as a casting director in Atlanta, Georgia, McBride was cast by Frank Darabont for a role in the film The Mist alongside other The Walking Dead alums Laurie Holden and Jeffrey DeMunn.
Her relationship with Darabont led to her current role as Carol Peletier in The Walking Dead. Originally she was to be killed off in the Season 3 episode Killer Within. Producers later decided against it.
The character of Carol Peletier has become a fan favorite. She started as a shy, weak and abused housewife who loses he daughter, Sophia. Along the course of the series run, she became a fierce and strong warrior who would do and has done anything to protect her family, even kill.
McBride has been nominated and won several awards for her work on The Walking Dead. Her wins include 2 Saturn Awards for Best Supporting Actress on Television in 2014 and 2016 and a Critics’ Choice Television Award in 2014 for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.
She currently lives in Atlanta, Georgia, where she has been since the mid-1980s.
