Please join us in wishing a very happy birthday to one of our favorite filmmakers, James Gunn! He celebrates 47 years of being totally awesome today!
Gunn grew up in Missouri and absolutely fell in love with film after being inspired by Night of the Living Dead and Friday the 13th. He started making films at the early age of 12 and went on to create his first independent film in 1995 called Tromeo and Juliet. After getting his start, he went on to create some instant classics such as Scooby-Doo (2002), Monsters Unleashed (2004), Slither (2006), and of course Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 (2017).
Earlier this year, Gunn wrote a heartfelt letter to fans via his social media pages explaining exactly why he loves to do what he does. In that letter, Gunn said:
“I work because I like telling stories. I work because I love the relationships I have with my collaborators. And I do it because I like connecting with people, and the easiest way I know how to do that is through filmmaking. I do it so that some kid in Thailand, or England, or Colombia, or Brazil, or Japan, or Russia, or anywhere, can hear the frequency of his or her own heart bouncing back off the Guardians…. Thank you so much, my Facebook friends, for supporting me over the past two and a half years, and thank you for all the messages letting us know we’ve keyed into the frequency of your hearts. I love you all, and I’ll continue being here with you over the next three years as we create Vol. 3.”
We love you, Jame Gunn! And we are wishing you the happiest birthday in the galaxy today! We hope you are celebrating big and getting your groove on, Baby Groot style!
