Author, and professor, John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was born this day 126 years ago. Loved by millions across the land, Mr. Tolkien welcomed us into his world of timeless epic fantasy; delighting fans for decades. The Hobbit and Lord of The Rings, published in 1937 and 1954/1955 respectively have seemingly set the standard for legendary tale-telling. Even best-selling author Stephen King has admitted to Tolkien’s Middle Earth influences on his own classics The Stand and The Dark Tower. It is without a doubt that J.R.R. Tolkien will continue to inspire authors and creators well beyond even his incredible imagination.
In celebration each year on January 3rd, the Tolkien Society encourages fans from across the world to celebrate J.R.R Tolkien’s birthday with a simple toast-drinking ceremony.
