‘Halloween’ Lit Up the Box Office This Weekend

Halloween wasn’t just smashing pumpkins this past weekend, it was smashing box office records! With Jamie Lee Curtis reprising her iconic role as Laurie Strode for the first time since 1998, the new chapter in the Michael Myers saga managed to rake in over $77 million at the US box office.
On top of that astounding number, the film managed to break a bunch of other records as well. Despite not surpassing Venom for the best October opening of all-time, as of now, Halloween now holds the record for the biggest opening for any horror film with a female lead and the biggest opening for a horror film with a female lead over 55. It was also the biggest opening for any Halloween franchise film. It’s also worth mentioning that the film only had a $10 million budget, giving producer Jason Blum his best opening as well.
Our Hallo-queen, Jamie Lee Curtis took to Twitter to bask in the pride and glory of the film’s success, alongside a photo with Judy Greer and Andi Matichak who play Laurie’s daughter and granddaughter in the film.

Halloween picks up forty years after 1978’s first installment, with Laurie Strode having spent that time crafting herself into a badass and her home into a fortress, waiting for the day that Michael would one day return. Unfortunately, her obsession has estranged her from her daughter Karen (Judy Greer) and her granddaughter (Andi Matichak), but when Michael manages to escape after a prison transport – everyone must come together to end things once and for all. The film is being received incredibly well by critics and audiences, rocking a solid 80% on Rotten Tomatoes and our resident Halloween expert here at FanFest said it was well worth the four-decade wait!

Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream.
