‘Halloween 2018’ will ‘ignore’ all films after the Original

If there is one thing we horror fans are looking forward to (well one of the things we are looking forward to) it is the release of David Gordon Green’s Halloween. The script will be written by Danny McBride, and has a set release date for October 19th, 2018.

The film going to be a sequel to John Carpenter’s original classic, with Jamie Lee Curtis returning as Laurie Strode.

In an interview with Yahoo this week, McBride proved some more details about the franchise “reinvention,” reiterating something John Carpenter recently revealed:

We’re kind of ignoring all the films past the first one. It picks up after the first one, but it’s sort of an alternate reality. It’s as if the first Halloween ended in a slightly different way,”

This suggests that the new film may quite possible rewrite some of the events that occurred in the original. While that may be viewed as a pretty cool concept to some horror folks, McBride worries that in turn it could anger those who are loyal fans to the original films:

“I just hope that we don’t eff it up and piss people off. This is such a diehard fan base. You don’t want horror fans being your enemies because they show up at your house with masks on. We are diehard fans of Halloween. We’re watching all the sequels and where things have taken left turns here and there that maybe bites for fans, and at least trying to deliver what we would have wanted to see. Hopefully that will line up with most fans.”

Horror, as we all know has become quite a popular genre. However, within horror there are several genre’s of it’s own. There is comedy horror, thriller horror, and sci-fi horror just to name a few. In this film, there will be no subtle comedy. In fact, the writing staff warns viewers that they should indeed, be scared.

“I think you should be very scared. I mean, this isn’t a comedy at all. I think there was, like, maybe one joke on the page, but the rest is straight horror. So hopefully it gets in people’s heads and keeps them up late at night.”

“Laurie Strode comes to her final confrontation with Michael Myers, the masked figure who has haunted her since she narrowly escaped his killing spree on Halloween night four decades ago.”

Michael Myers returns to Haddonfield to seek his revenge on October 19, 2018.
