Guillermo del Toro’s ‘The Shape of Water’ Gets Awards Season Release Date and R-Rating
The Shape of Water, directed by Guillermo del Toro, has been given the release date of December 8, 2017 and has officially been given an R-rating.
Del Toro announced the film’s rating, given by the Motion Picture Association of America, via his Twitter account last week.
So- "R" it is!

The Fox Searchlight film stars Michael Shannon, Sally Hawkins, Doug Jones, Richard Jenkins, Michael Stuhlbarg, Octavia Spencer, and Nick Searcey. Del Toro will produce the film along with J. Miles Dale.
Sally Hawkins plays Government facility janitor when her life is changed after the discovery of an “aquatic man” whom she falls for. He (Jones) is being held captive and is undegoing testing. Octavia Spencer plays her co-worker. The film is said to be an “-other worldly story set against the backdrop of Cold Era America circa 1963.”
The director also squashed rumors of the film having an R-rating due to it being more of a horror movie. He tweeted the following post.
No. The Shape of Water is NOT a horror movie. It's a bit of a fairy tale story – a fable set in early 1960's America.

Doug Jones has worked with del Toro on several projects starring in Hellboy, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, Mimic, Pan’s Labyrinth, Crimson Peak, and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. Some of his Television projects with the director are The Strain and Star Trek Discovery.
The Shape of Water was shot in Toronto, Canada and is set to be released in the midst of award season on December 8th.
