del Toro’s film will follow a group of young teens who must solve the mystery surrounding sudden and macabre deaths in their small town, and is based on author Alvin Schwartz’s iconic book series by the same name.

André Øvredal directs with del Toro co-writing and producing the film along with Daniel and Kevin Hageman. Sean Daniel, Elizabeth Grave, Jason F. Brown, and J. Miles Dale are also producing along with del Toro.

We’re thrilled to be joining Terry Press and her team at CBS Films, Guillermo, André Øvredal, and the talented group they’ve assembled, and look forward to launching in Cannes through our partners at Sierra/Affinity.”

The original Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark book was released in 1981 with follow up volumes including More Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (1984) and Scary Stories 3: More Tales to Chill Your Bones (1991). Each volume contained a series of terrifying short stories drawing from urban legends and local folklore accompanied by macabre illustrations by Stephen Gammell. The book series became an international best-seller.

Currently, the film stars Zoe Colletti, Michael Garza, Gabriel Rush, Austin Abrams, Dean Norris, Gil Bellows, Lorraine Toussaint, Austin Zajur, and Natalie Ganzhorn.
