Karen Gillan is heading from the jungles of Jumanji to the wild Canadian Yukon. The Guardians of the Galaxy actress has just been cast to star opposite Dan Stevens and Harrison Ford in 20th Century Fox’s upcoming film adaption of The Call of the Wild. Gillan shared the news on social media.

The classic novel, written by Jack London in 1903, follows a dog named Buck, who is abducted from a comfortable life as a pet and tossed into the chaos of the Klondike Gold Rush and forced to endure the brutal wilderness. Over time Buck encounters a series of abusive owners before landing in the merciful hands of John Thornton. Gillan will be playing Mercedes, who is part of a trio of stampeders from the United States and one of Buck’s owners. Harrison Ford will be playing Thorton, a role that has previously been played by Clark Gable in a 1935 adaption and Charlton Heston in 1972. At this time Dan Stevens’ role is still unknown.

The movie will be mainly live-action with major CG elements. Chris Sanders of The Croods and How to Train Your Dragon will make his live-action directorial debut with a script penned by Logan screenwriter Michael Green.

Gillan is best known for her role as Nebula in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise and Avengers: Infinity War. She recently appeared in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and is set to reprise her role alongside Dwayne Johnson in the sequel. Gillan made her directorial debut earlier this year as well when her film The Party’s Just Beginning premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival.

The Call of the Wild is expected to hit theaters on December 25, 2019!
