Since last summer, Disney has been teasing a major Marvel expansion coming to its theme parks in the United States.  As part of this expansion, on Sunday, Disney officially announced that The Guardians of the Galaxy will be making their way to the Orlando, Florida’s Epcot in a brand new roller coaster ride!  The new roller coaster was announced via Disney Parks Blog shortly after it was announced during D23 Expo Japan.

Not only will the new ride be the first full roller coaster ride for Epcot but it will also be one of the biggest on the planet!  The ride will feature a unique and innovative story, currently in development from Walt Disney’s talented Imagineers, featuring everyone’s favorite Guardians of the Galaxy characters.  Disney’s aim with this new coaster is to really “wow” their guests.

Disney has had great success with the addition of the Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout ride in California’s Disneyland.  With this new coaster addition coming to Epcot, Disney is hoping to make the theme park more family-oriented.  Chairman of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts Bob Chapek said:

“As we build upon its core mission of optimism and hope to inspire the world, the real will become fantastic and the fantastic will become real—in whole new ways at Epcot.”

The new Guardians of the Galaxy roller coaster is planned to open in conjunction with Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary in 2021.
