Grey’s Anatomy is one of the most successful television shows in network history. The series is wrapping up its 13th season tonight, is responsible for one successful spin-off, Private Practice, and another one is on its way. Variety reported the news just days ago.

The new series will premiere in 2018 and will follow the lives of firefighters in Seattle in both their personal and professional lives. The firefighters will cross paths with the doctors we’ve grown to love and with season 13 drawing to a close this evening, and a big explosion on the horizon, it’s anticipated that we’ll see characters from the new series in tonight’s Grey’s Anatomy episode.

ABC Entertainment’s President Channing Dungey had this to say about Shonda and Grey’s. ‘No one can interweave the jeopardy firefighters face in the line of duty with the drama in their personal lives quite like Shonda, and Grey’s signature Seattle setting is the perfect backdrop for this exciting spinoff.’

Deciding to spin-off Grey’s Anatomy was an easy decision. The series is a massive addition to ABC’s network. After 13 seasons, it is ABC’s number 1 scripted drama, which says a lot about the show being so long-running. Grey’s also sets the standard for the opening of TGIT, a lineup of shows from Shonda Rhimes, also including Scandal and How to Get Away With Murder.

Shonda Rhimes, Betsy Beers, and Stacy McKee will produce the show and there’s no way that the series won’t immediately take off. Shonda creates characters that viewers want to care about, and with the series following firefighters, it’s sure to be an emotionally-charged drama. We can’t wait to see their stories unfold and we’re hoping to get a sneak peek of those stories this evening.

Are you still a Grey’s Anatomy fan? Are you excited about the new spin-off? Let us know.
