Meredith Grey and the rest of her merry band of colleagues on Grey’s Anatomy will live on for an impressive 15th season! The Seattle based medical drama is ABC’s longest-running primetime drama series and even after 14 seasons on the air, the show is still gaining traction in the ratings and continues to be ABC’s top drama.
“Grey’s Anatomy has a special place in my heart and millions of viewers feel the same way. Thanks to fiercely loyal fans who have been on this journey since the beginning, and new generations of viewers who continue to discover the joy and drama of Grey Sloan Memorial, the show is as strong as ever,” said the president of ABC Entertainment Channing Dungey.
The renewal is a confirmation of what fans had been recently speculating as series star Ellen Pompeo just signed a new two-year deal that would keep her on board to season 16. Season 15 will tie Grey’s with NBC’s long-running medical drama E.R. and should the series run through Pompeo’s new contract it will surpass that series’ impressive run.
While the news is very exciting, there will certainly be shake-ups once the show begins its new season. Series creator Shonda Rhimes has recently signed a massive deal with Netflix so she will be moving on to create new content for them, but will still be serving as an Executive Producer on Grey’s. Cast members Jessica Capshaw and Sarah Drew will also both be leaving after season 14.
Are you excited for a whole new season of Grey Sloan Memorial Antics? Grey’s Anatomy airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
Having studied Media & Writing at James Madison University, I always knew that I wanted to do some type of creative writing, but being able to write about zombies, Starks, and superheroes on a daily basis for Fan Fest is my actual dream. While I probably shouldn’t be as proud as I am to be so similar to Nick Miller, I do hope to one day write my own “Pepperwood Chronicles’.
